Understanding God's Heart For Us in Song
Inspiration is often understood as something that comes and goes — a moment of clarity, creativity, or motivation. Scripture presents a deeper source.
True inspiration does not originate within us alone. It comes from God.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”
2 Timothy 3:16
The very word of God is described as breathed out by Him. It carries His authority, His truth, and His life.
When we look to Him, our thinking begins to change.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Romans 12:2
Inspiration, in this sense, is not just creativity — it is transformation.
God also works through His Spirit within us.
“For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”
Philippians 2:13
What we desire, what we pursue, and what we create can be shaped by His presence.
This changes the direction of inspiration. It becomes aligned with purpose, not just expression.
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
Proverbs 16:3
When God is the source, what flows from us carries weight and meaning beyond ourselves.
This applies not only to creative work, but to life as a whole.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”
Colossians 3:23
Inspiration becomes rooted in devotion. It is no longer about recognition or output, but about faithfulness.
Even in moments when inspiration feels absent, God remains constant.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Hebrews 13:8
The source does not change, even when our feelings do.
To say “You are my inspiration” is to recognise where everything truly begins.
Not from within, but from above.
From God, through His word, by His Spirit.
You are my inspiration.
